Holistic Chiropractic in Salt Lake City

Dr. Bob Seiler is a chiropractic physician, Doctor of Chiropractic, DC, in Salt Lake City. A holistic healer by definition strives to create harmony within the body – examining the physical, chemical and emotional components of health and well-being. Not many salt lake city chiropractic physicians practice this way. More traditional chiropractic believes in repeated chiropractic adjustments.

Chiropractors focus on providing non-invasive, drug-free and natural treatments that help treat musculo-skeletal body disorders. Combining spinal adjustments, other treatments may include exercise, diet, nutrition and healthy lifestyle changes. Chiropractic  physicians believe that all body functions are triggered by the brain, travel down the spinal cord and then disperse to the body’s cells and organs.

Combining education, diagnostic skills, advanced knowledge, laboratory results and expert judgment, chiropractors strive to evaluate the patient’s overall neurological health. Chiropractors as primary healthcare physicians also work with other healthcare professionals to help diagnose and treat patients.

Typically, holistic chiropractors complete a new patient physical examination with x-rays and sometimes order MRI’s and CT Scans to more thoroughly check the nervous and musculoskeletal systems. Additionally, chiropractors must complete an advanced college degree, state and nationwide examinations and be licensed to practice in each state.

What are the benefits of holistic chiropractic services?

  • Patients become more aware that their bodies as well as their minds and emotions, bodies work and effect each other.
  • If the body is not functioning properly, other systems of the body suffer. Many physical conditions are related to different types of emotional stress.
  • Instead of short-term results, as often associated with pain medications, patients report that many chiropractic treatments have long-term health outcomes.
  • Doctors of Chiropractic medicine are licensed as primary care physicians and specialize in not only treating spinal health, but also other body illnesses and conditions.
  • Many patients can feel relief in the following joints when undergoing holistic chiropractor treatments: hands, feet, shoulders, knees and back.
  • Additionally, holistic chiropractic treatments can also treat and alleviate the systems involved in autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue, migraines, menstrual pain, pre-menstrual syndrome, colds, thyroid disorders, digestion disorders and allergies.
  • Helping balance the nervous system can allow the body to heal a number of disorders and illnesses.
  • Some people feel a difference when changing their diets or adding nutritional supplements.
  • Too many think that taking multiple vitamins is sufficient for good health.
  • Soft tissue balancing can help nerve pain, including tendons, fascia, muscles and ligaments.
  • Many soft tissue disorders can be alleviated with holistic treatment, including Plantar Fasicitis, Epicondylitis, shoulder pain, neck pain, lower back pain, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and scar tissue.
  • A holistic chiropractor in Salt Lake City can specialize in helping patients learn breathing techniques, yoga and meditation, which further enhances the body-mind connection.

Chiropractic Techniques in Salt Lake City

There are a number of successful chiropractic techniques, which focus on improved body health by aligning the spine, muscles and extremities. Often times, neck pain and back pain can cause poor circulation, which ultimately takes a toll on one’s health. Oftentimes, poor posture is simply the result of improper spinal misalignment, a decreased awareness of your body’s positions and lack of commitment in wanting to restore optimal posture. You don’t have to wait until there’s significant pain to make changes in your body! Regular holistic chiropractic care with an awareness of what’s good to eat and not to eat along with the right kind of exercise and even no exercise can give you the health you’re looking for.

Dr. Bob Seiler, a Salt Lake City chiropractor, is a trained holistic professional who focuses on helping people improve their body’s overall health and well-being. The chiropractic adjustment given manually or by The Impulse, Neuro-Mecahnical instrument can be unbelievably helpful to one’s health and well-being. Dr. Seiler takes time and gentleness to see if the chiropractic adjustment can help you. The chiropractic adjustment is not for everyone.

What type of techniques do Salt Lake City chiropractors use? This brief guide will give prospective patients an overview.

  • Spinal Manipulation – This technique involves “retraining” the spine and the spine’s muscles to adapt to healthier posture. This often results in increased mobility, helping bring the entire spinal column into harmony and balance.
  • Extremity Manipulation – Spinal health is important, allowing the body to function properly, including muscles, organs and mental health. Using extremity manipulation helps mobilize joints and muscles that may be causing discomfort and musculoskeletal pain. Chiropractors use extremity manipulation, helping to restore nerve supply and mobility to extremities and joints that may be negatively affecting the body’s nervous system.
  • NeuroMechanical Impulse Instrument – This technique includes analyzing the length of the legs to help determine whether a pelvic deficiency is indeed present. Every person stands differently, bearing weight at different points in the body. Over time, this can cause an excessive build-up of pressure on one side of the body, resulting in one leg being slightly shorter, having compensated for excess weight and gravity. This method helps restore the body by focusing on correcting pelvic and vertebral misalignments, often using The Impulse instrument to set the joints back into the proper positions.
    • Thompson Techniques – This method also analyzes the legs’ length. However, this method utilizes a drop table, allowing the chiropractor to gently thrust the joints, allowing for proper realignment. This method allows chiropractors to focus on specific tissues and joints.
    • Gonstead Techniques – This technique addresses subluxation, areas where the spine is misaligned and results in a painful pinched nerve. This technique also focuses on using different pressure methods.
    • Cox Flexion and Distraction Techniques – This method is ideal for people suffering from severe neck, arm, leg and back pain. Often considered a safe alternative to invasive back surgery, this is can help restore muscles and range of motion in joints, helping bring the spine into proper alignment. This technique can also help reduce headaches, improve posture and alleviate some herniated disc discomfort.

Holistic Diet and Nutrition for Better Health

With the increase of diseases and obesity in the United States, many people are waking up to just how important diet and nutrition are. Illnesses like diabetes, heart disease and arthritis are at a record-breaking climb and most of us are starting to realize how imperative it truly is to eat right, decrease sugar-intake, increase water intake, get enough sleep, exercise and stretch correctly. Be more conscious of your current lifestyle.

While pizza and cheeseburgers are fine occasionally, those who choose foods like these and who like soda for their regular diet will quickly develop high blood pressure and other illnesses. Researchers are constantly sharing the importance of a diet rich in proteins and fiber and low in carbs and fats. But each of us has to have our own epiphany about the true importance of healthy eating and exercise.

Adults are not only eating the wrong things but we’re teaching our children to eat poorly. In the past 30 years, childhood obesity has more than tripled. Every year the percentage of obese kids increases. According to the World Health Organization, by the year 2015, over 2 billion adults worldwide with be overweight with more than 700 million classified as obese.

These startling facts are beginning to wake up many of us and help us take our diet and daily exercise regimen much more seriously. So what can we do to get ourselves and our families on wholesome nutritional foods? How can we get our kids away from the TV and games and get them outdoors exercising and playing?

Tip Number One:
Talk to your family. Discuss the importance of nutrition and exercise. Though children may not act like they’re listening, often much of what parents say does get through. Don’t accuse anyone of anything. Instead, try to get your family all on the same page concerning changing some eating habits. Try to make it a fun, family activity that all of you will do together because you love each other and want to live long, healthy lives.

Tip Number Two:
Consider outdoor activities that the whole family could be involved in, such as swimming, basketball or volleyball. Group outdoor sports can be fun and get the heart rate up. Learn to play tennis or consider swimming. Gentle movement is good for the body and mind. These are physical activities that family members might truly enjoy. Sometimes when kids see the Olympic games or Wimbledon on television it can spark a lifelong interest in various sporting activities.

Tip Number Three:
Talk to your kids and family about how nutritious green leafy vegetables, carrots, broccoli and others are. Give them some good solid information about wholesome foods. Discuss the various benefits of eating celery and carrots instead of candy bars. Make a strong case for eating nutritional foods and eventually your family will get the message.

Tips to Regain Mobility in your Body

Often people go to see a Utah chiropractor because they have taken a bad fall, experience pain or are hearing pops and clicks in their body. Sometimes it’s just a question of having slept wrong, waking up with stiffness in your neck or poor posture. Victims of car accidents also seek help from a Salt Lake City chiropractor for whiplash.

Whatever has your body aching and in pain, there are some key things you can do for yourself to alleviate the stiffness and restore mobility.

Stiff Neck
A common cause of your stiff neck can simply be sleeping wrong and the type of pillow or bed that you are using. This causes a muscle spasm to the levator scapula muscle. This muscle connects the cervical spine (the neck) with the shoulder and is controlled by the third and fourth cervical nerves (C3, C4).

Playing various types of sports can also cause a stiff neck, as can excessive stress and holding your neck in an awkward position for a long time like leaning over your computer. Sometimes an ice pack or heating pad can can help soothe the aching muscles. Massages can help but it is not as extensive and comprehensive as seeing a holistic chiropractor in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Lower Back
When it comes to lower back pain, about the best cure is to see your chiropractor for a holistic physical exam. Receive a thorough evaluation. See whats causing your pain or symptom. Subluxations may be involved. Some people swear by the heating pad and their favorite topical ointment. Your lower back is an intricate structure of ligaments, tendons, muscles, soft tissue and joints.

These highly sensitive nerves can cause pain that radiates to other parts of the body. Lower back muscle spasms can be severe or even chronic. In some cases, low back pain indicates more severe conditions such as degenerative disc disease and lumbar disc herniation. In older adults, the low back pain can be caused from joint degeneration or osteoarthritis.

Treatment Options
If the pain is severe or persistent, it’s very important to see a chiropractic physician. Dr. Bob Seiler can have x-rays ordered, because he does not like to over utilize x-ray. If you have chills and fever, changes in bowel movements or unexplained weight loss, then seek the help of trained physician immediately.

Understanding Low Back Problems

You may experience low back problems quite frequently. This chronic condition can have many root causes. You might be sleeping on an old, worn out mattress or one that doesn’t have lumbar support. In an effort to save money, we sometimes buy a less expensive mattress and then undergo years of back aches because our backs are not getting the proper support for a good night’s sleep. This can affect your overall health if not addressed.

Low back pain is a musculoskeletal disorder that affects 80% of the population at some point in their lives. It is the second most common neurological illness, with headache being number one. Every year low back pain or lumbago is responsible for millions of employees missing out on work.

Cures and Treatments
Low back pain is classified as either acute, subacute or chronic. Many of us try to just put up with it using over the counter medications to alleviate the painful symptoms. Sometimes we also try getting a deep tissue or Swedish massage and this can bring soothing relief in many cases. Another cure is the heating pad or use of a topical analgesic. If you are able to get there safely, then soaking in a warm tub with Epsom Salts added to the water can relax the muscles. Be sure to get help getting in and out of the tub.

Many sufferers seek out Utah chiropractor, Dr. Bob Seiler. He addresses conditions like these in a variety of ways and begins by talking with the patient to find out exactly what the cause of the low back pain is. Sometimes we simply sleep wrong or take a bad fall at work. This can dislocate discs or cause spinal misalignment. Learning the cause of your low back pain is an important step in curing the condition and avoiding future episodes.

Posture
Young people and others can cause spinal misalignment and low back pain from bad posture. Sitting over a computer where you are in a stooped position is bad for neck and back. If we sit or stand in slouching or unconventional positions on a regular basis, then eventually a person may see an unnatural curvature of the spine. Once this occurs it is very difficult to reverse.

Back Adjustments
When it comes to low back pain, your best bet is normally to see a chiropractor to get an adjustment. With manual therapy and manipulation of the spine, Dr. Bob Seiler can relieve the pressure and pain of your low back ache. He can also recommend methods of avoiding future discomfort. These might include changes in your lifestyle that would be a positive affect on your overall health.

Your lower back is made up of an intricate structure of tendons, muscles and other soft tissue. These sensitive nerves can cause pain to radiate to other parts ofyour body and occasionally low back pain is a symptom of a much more severe medical problem.

Facts About Fibromyalgia

We’ve all heard the word “Fibromyalgia” but most of us really know nothing about this unusual illness. It is by and large difficult to understand but is characterized by musculoskeletal pain, tenderness in specific areas, and feelings of fatigue even after a good night’s rest.

Fibromyalgia is more common in young women than in men. Symptoms occur in the muscles and bone structure. It is estimated that the illness currently affects approximately six million people in the United States. Though fibromyalgia is difficult to identify and treat, it is the third most common diagnosis made by rheumatologists.

The Symptoms
Patients often complain of a variety of problems including pain which may occur in the low back area. Stiffness is also a symptom and these two symptoms can sometimes lead doctors to misdiagnose fibromyalgia believing that the patient is suffering with arthritis instead.

While this illness is not life threatening, it is usually chronic and can cause sufferers years of pain, discomfort and fatigue. In the end, someone with fibromyalgia must make adjustments to their lifestyle in order to minimize the pain. The average person suffers for approximately 13 years and during that time, they learn to deal with various aspects of the illness each in their own way.

Do Natural Remedies Work?
Many natural herbal supplements exist that are purported to help along with other treatments like acupuncture, aerobic exercise and certain vitamins. Most patients agree that regular massages as well as chiropractic adjustments do seem to relieve their suffering. Doctors may prescribe sleeping pills to help patients get a sound night’s rest.

LiteCure’s Class IV Deep Tissue Laser Therapy

One of the more effective and popular therapies used at the Utah Holistic Chiropractic & Wellness is the LiteCure Class IV Deep Tissue Laser. It was designed and manufactured by LiteCure Medical and approved by the FDA. Using state-of-the-art laser technology and manufacturing methods, the LiteCure is certified to meet ISO-9001 and ISO-13485 standards.

New patients to the Wellness Center are usually interested in exactly how it works and what results you can expect. Laser therapy has been around a few years now. It is a non-invasive technique that reduces pain and inflammation. It’s a great alternative to surgery or drugs and is often requested by those who value natural holistic treatments over prescription drugs to deal with what ails us. The treatments usually last between 5 and 10 minutes and patients will require at least 3 treatments to really begin feeling the difference.

The treatment plan will be formulated especially for each patient by the doctor depending upon the patient’s medical history, current condition and other factors like this. If you’re one of those people who just doesn’t like to take pills, but does have a few aches and pains, then the LiteCure Laser is a great solution.

Lasers cannot penetrate through your clothing, so it is necessary for the treated area to be bare skin. Patients usually say they feel a warm, soothing sensation during treatments. The laser is moving through layers of skin and tissue to bring warmth, increased ATP and healing to the affected area. The doctor will use a hand piece that he runs over the treatment area and he can also massage this area as well allowing for a doubly effective treatment. As the laser penetrates deeper into the tissue, it brings about greater healing with a few additional laser treatments.

The laser treatments combined with holistic nutrition and spinal decompression can offer some exciting results in terms of simply feeling better. Dr. Bob Seiler and his staff work with patients who have a wide range of back, leg, neck, arm pain and headaches. The Holistic Chiropractic & Wellness Clinic believes in developing treatment options which are specifically designed and affordable for each individual.

Too many doctors and clinics don’t really know their patients or have a good, solid understanding of their needs and medical history. Being treated by someone who uses the same identical methods for every patient will usually not result in optimal healing. Each person is different and what works for one person may not work for the next person.

Dr. Bob Seiler’s Holistic Chiropractic Salt Lake City offers comprehensive treatment plans designed to meet your individual needs. Dr. Seiler believes in giving each patient time to discuss their medical history and current issues they’re dealing with.

What is Spinal Decompression? Non-Surgical Relief of Back & Neck Pain

Spinal Decompression is a non-surgical technique that utilizes traction based therapy to alleviate the pressure on a herniated or bulging disc. During your treatment, the doctor cycles through the dis-traction and relaxation phases so that the spinal disc can be isolated. This aids in placing the disc under negative pressure which causes a vacuum effect.

The injured disc is pulled back into its normal space where healing can take place. The procedure also works to increase blood flow in the area which can speed up the healing process. Spinal decompression will even work for those who have had back surgery but still experience pain and discomfort associated with a herniated disc.  Patients often report that they receive relief from neck and leg pain as well.

Spinal decompression is also often used on patients who do not have a herniated or bulging disc, but do suffer with poor spinal muscle control. In many patients, the spine and discs are problem areas, so if Dr. Bob believes that spinal decompression can relieve some of the pressure that may be causing your pain, then he will offer you this treatment option along with several others.

His multi-faceted approach to spinal issues has proven to work in a number of patients with various problems. The Holistic Chiropractic & Wellness Clinic prides itself on the diversity of treatment options offered to patients. Each person is different and every condition may require a unique solution.

If you’ve experienced prolonged back, arm, neck, or leg pain, then spinal decompression therapy may provide the relief you’ve been searching for. It also works well for those with a pinched nerve, spinal stenosis, or osteoarthritis in the facet joints. In most cases, the treatments are completely painless and patients may even fall asleep during their spinal decompression treatment.

At the Utah Holistic Chiropractic & Wellness Clinic, the Kennedy Decompression Table is used for this procedure. Dr. Bob will go over the treatment regimen best for your particular situation and answer your questions before beginning.

Discovering the Benefits of Holistic Nutrition

One of the major issues that many Americans now face concerns their diet and exercise. Americans are now eating diets rich in carbohydrates, fried foods, and sweets. We’ve all seen those commercials for a big delicious double cheeseburger and chocolate shake and then gotten into our cars to drive to the nearest fast food establishment. While these types of food are certainly delicious, they are not at all good for our health.

It’s definitely okay to eat these types of foods occasionally but when your entire diet is made up mostly of pizza and cheeseburgers, you will quickly see a decline in your health. That’s where holistic nutrition comes in. Holistic nutrition helps us to relearn what’s good and healthy for us to eat as opposed to what foods to stay away from.

Once a person becomes 30, 40 or 50 pounds overweight, they will find that they cannot get around near as well as they once did. Carrying an extra 40 pounds in body fat is like taking a box of junk that weighs 40 pounds everywhere you go. You will quickly get out of breath and find that you can’t go very far.

Holistic nutrition seeks to help us get back to eating fresh, wholesome fruits and vegetables that nourish our body and brain. At snack time, eat grapes instead of potato chips. For dinner, add a crisp dinner salad in place of the mashed potatoes. There are actually a number of very tasty foods that are also healthy and good for us. The trick is to get in the habit of eating them and to teach your family to crave things like squash, tomatoes, and bananas instead of French fries and hamburgers.

Believe it or not, children are much easier to train than adults. Even though they may whine some at first, they are quicker to adapt to healthy eating than a grown person who has been eating a poor diet for years. Children are also very open-minded and reasonable. You might start by teaching them the value of eating healthy.

Show them some statistics. Talk about the health problems associated with obesity, such as diabetes. Make a sound argument and you can usually win over most kids, even teens. Because so many Americans have become alarmed at the growing number of adults and children who are obese, you can easily find many stores that offer organically grown foods. This is a great place to start.

Pick up some fresh fruits and veggies that you think your family might like. Don’t forget snack foods like dried cranberries, strawberries or raisins. These are not only tasty snacks but they are nutritious. Don’t forget to address the drinks as well. Too many of us are drinking several soft drinks, coffee and tea each day. Replace those soft drinks with juices like orange or apple juice. Be sure to read the label and get 100% juice and not simply water with added sugar and flavorings.

Remember that food is fuel for our bodies. If you put trash in your car’s gas tank, it will not budge. Though the human body is more forgiving than that, it will eventually break down if you fill it with junk food day after day. There are so many advantages to eating healthy. They include more energy, fewer illnesses and a nice complexion.

History of Chiropractic

The field of chiropractic medicine has had a tumultuous history. It was originally founded in the 1890’s by a man named Daniel D. Palmer. Palmer believed that much of the pain and suffering that humans attempt to cope with could successfully be relieved by adjusting the spine. In 1895, Palmer met a janitor with impaired hearing and reportedly healed the man’s hearing problem by adjusting his spine.

In 1897, Palmer opened the “Palmer School of Chiropractic” in Davenport, Iowa where he began teaching others how to manipulate someone’s spine to relieve pain. Palmer’s beliefs about the underlying causes of many “dis-eases” being associated with the spine were slow to catch on. People simply could not believe that adjusting the spine could alleviate things like leg pain or headaches.

The Palmer School of Chiropractic did well in spite of these obstacles and eventually Palmer’s son, B.J. Palmer bought the school from his father and continued his work. B.J. Palmer expanded the school and broadened his understanding of the human body and spinal column. Eventually, he moved west and opened new schools of chiropractic in Oklahoma, California, and Oregon.

In the basic science of chiropractic, there are two schools of thought. “Straights” believe in innate intelligence, vitalism and that vertebral subluxations are the cause of all disease. This group has fallen into the minority over the years. The other group, “Mixers,” is open to many conventional medical techniques, such as ice therapy, massage, stretching and exercise.

In spite of its rocky past, the field of chiropractic is now the third largest of all health professions, with medicine and dentistry in first and second place. During the latter part of the twentieth century, the profession grew to where today there are literally thousands of chiropractic clinics all over the world, especially in the U.S. and Canada.

These days, many people believe in the benefits of chiropractic and regularly see a chiropractic physician for vertebral subluxations. Today’s modern chiropractic clinic usually employs an in-house massage therapist and offers several treatment options involving roller and hydro-massage tables.
