Q: What is Holistic Chiropractic & Wellness?

A: Holistic Chiropractic Wellness is a lifestyle that enhances the chemical-emotional-physical-spiritual well-being for children, adolescents, parents, adults, grand-parents!

Q: What’s involved in a Holistic Chiropractic & Wellness Lifestyle for children, adolescents, parents, adults, as  practiced by Dr. Bob Seiler, a Holistic Chiropractor in Salt Lake City, Utah?

  • It begins with the quality of sleep that you, your children, your family experience,
  • Do you or your family get enough of restful sleep so that when you awake in the morning you feel refreshed and energized, or do you or your children toss and turn when sleeping?  Do you have what is called Restless Leg Syndrome? Do you or your partner snore or have sleep apnea, which interferes with restful sleep and which leads to high blood pressure?
  • If you or your family are not getting quality sleep what changes can be made? You can have dinner earlier, have fewer sugar snacks before going to sleep, reduce the amount of sugar (cookies, pastry, cakes, soda pop) , eat fewer items that have preservatives, which is anything that is on a shelf in a grocery store. Preservatives prolong the longevity of food on shelves, but don’t prolong your quality of  life. Sugars lead to short bursts of energy, but longer term fatigue, which leads to adrenal gland exhaustion, which creates a multitude of inefficiencies in your physical, chemical and emotional functioning.
  • Are you and your family eating enough of protein (organic chicken, meat (grass fed & no pork), fish (in deep moving cold waters), eggs (with omega-3′s) , vegetables (without pesticides), fruits that ripened?  Are you vegan or vegetarian?  If your vegetarian or vegan are you taking nutritional supplements to help balance your diet and nutrition? Are you drinking enough of alkaline fluids?  Are you eating enough alkaline foods?
  • Do you or your family have allergies to any foods, toxins within your environment (at home or at your workplace)?  Would you like to find out?
  • What are you or your children having for breakfast? Warm oatmeal with flax, low acidic nuts and fruit or a boxed cereal (containing preservatives – not healthy), fruits ( with a spectrum of colors), yogurt or kefir, fruit juice low in sugar? What kind of bread do you or your family eat? Are you or anyone in your family allergic to grains? Would you like to find out? If you eat eggs what are the chickens fed?  If you eat meat what are the animals fed, because what the animals eat is what you eat!
  • Do you or your family drink milk and what kind of milk do you drink – pasteurized, 2%, organic?  A lot of people are allergic to milk, to dairy products and don’t know it. Would you like to find out what dairy products that you’re allergic to? Do you or your family take quality vitamins?  What brand of vitamins do you purchase? Where do you buy your vitamins, minerals, supplements?  The vitamins that you buy are they the least expensive, most expensive , average price?  Are the supplements of good quality? Are those supplements absorbed by your body or just eliminated from your body? Do you have healthy gut bacteria to convert good, healthy food into useful nutrition for your body? If you or your family don’t have time in the morning for a sit-down breakfast could you make a protein shake (smoothie) with a favorite fruit, flax oil, wheat germ, quality fish oil? There are different ways to ingest fish oils. Please call our office today for a free 10-15 minute consultation at 801-230-0166 if you’d like to learn what are good foods to eat and good beverages to drink!
  • Can you bring a nutritional mid-morning snack with you to school or to the office rather then buy something from a vending machine (preservatives & processed- not healthy) ?
  • What do you or your family have for lunch – a white bread sandwich with lunch meat (preservatives & processed – not healthy) or something more nutritional with protein? What is the school or office cafeteria serving for lunch? Are the meals that the school prepares  of good nutrition with good sources of protein or are they prepared from preservatives, boxes, bags of flower, sugar?  Can a group of parents get together to help change the schools lunch menu? No hot dogs, less bread, no chips, soda or diet soda; more fruit, vegetables, fish!
  • Children or adults who get headaches in the afternoon are usually not eating enough of protein in the morning, late morning and at lunch; what are you eating for nutrition?
  • Do you or your family have an after school snack?  Are the snacks of protein or are they consisting of chips, cookies, candy, soda pop (all preservatives – not healthy)?  Are the beverages nutritional (water or a low-sugared fruit juice), or are they cans or bottles of soda? Look at the labels on the fruit juices that you buy. Sugars in fruit juice can range from 15 grams of sugar per bottle to 58 grams of sugar per bottle – the lower the amount of sugars the better for you, your children or your family!
  • Do you or your family participate is any exercise and what kind?  Is it the right exercise for your body, or is it worsening your condition? You may feel that your body looks better, but is your body actually better? You just may not be feeling a problem, but actually your condition may be worsening,
  • Lifting weights at the gym isn’t good for every-body. Do you do pre- and post- warm-ups with your exercise routine? Increased muscle-bulk doesn’t make a body healthy. Muscle-bulk can reduce flexibility, which is not what you want to have in your up-coming years. You want more flexibility!
  • What do you or your family have for dinner?  Is it nutritional or does it come from a box, jar, a packaged TV dinner (all with preservatives – not healthy)?
  • Is television watched after dinner?  For how long?  Which programs are watched?  Watching the evening news before going to sleep isn’t conducive in having a restful sleep? Unpleasant news programs prior to going to sleep usually disturbs and interferes with quality sleep,
  • Are any sugars, cakes, sweets, popcorn, candy, soda pop taken before going to sleep?
  • Is there any kind of pre-sleep routine to help you or your child sleep better? A sea-salt or essential oil bath, candles, incense in the bathroom with an adult present?
  • Are there any kind of beverages, herbs, teas, supplements that can be taken to make your sleep more restful and invigorating?
  • Is the bed in your bedroom just for sleep? Or is used for television watching which interferes with quality of sleep? Watching television in your bed before going to sleep isn’t conducive for restful sleep,
  • These are just a few things to be aware of as part of a Holistic Chiropractic Wellness Lifestyle as practiced by Dr. Bob Seiler, a holistic chiropractor in Salt Lake City, Utah,
  • Dr. Bob, a holistic chiropractor in Salt Lake City, Utah, can discuss these topics more in detail taking into consideration your current lifestyle and introducing new and better ways to improve your or your families health & well-being. Feel free to call our office at (801) 230-0166 to schedule your initial chiropractic appointment. Our office is located just behind the Oasis Cafe & Golden Braid bookstore at 150 South 600 East, Suite 6C, Salt Lake, City, Utah.

Q: Can a Chiropractic Wellness Lifestyle help reduce headaches, as practiced by Dr. Bob Seiler, a Holistic Chiropractor, in Salt Lake City, Utah?

A: Yes.

Q: What kind of lifestyle changes are involved in living a Chiropractic Wellness Lifestyle to help reduce headaches as practiced by Dr. Bob Seiler, a Holistic Chiropractor in Salt Lake City?

A: Let’s begin by asking some questions:

  • How much sugar do you eat during your day? Do you eat complex carbohydrates? What about simple carbohydrates? Do you eat foods with preservatives, additives, food colorings? The more a food is processed the more nutrients it looses, and the less benficial it is for your body, your health and well-being. Do you drink fruit juices? How many grams of sugar do they contain, which you can see on the back label ? What kind of breads do you eat?  White bread is the worse. Do you eat cold cereals, candy, sweets, cookies, crackers, chocolate, drink too much red wine?
  • Are you taking any nutritional supplementation? Is it a quality brand? Is your food helping you feel more energized or do you feel more fatigued, lacking energy? When you eat more nutritional food, you will eat less food. People eating “junk” food tend to eat more food, which can increase weight, can lead to obesity, can lead to diabetes or peripheral neuropathy. How long have you been taking your particular supplementation? If your body & mind isn’t responding to the food that you are eating, the supplements or medications that you are taking perhaps it’s worth re-examining how you’re going about your life from a holistic wellness lifestyle perspective as practiced by Dr. Bob Seiler, a holistic chiropractor in Salt Lake City, Utah?  As a holistic chiropractor Dr. Bob Seiler of Salt Lake City, Utah will make “natural” recommendations for your healing & well-being. A medical doctor will probably recommend medications, chemicals, which could have some benefit, but they are also toxic with many side-effects. The side-effects may out-weigh the benefits. So when you see all the advertisements on TV suggesting that you call your doctor to see if a particular medication is good for you even with its 10-20 side effects, whyu not consider calling Dr. Bob Seiler, a holistic chiropractor in Salt Lake City, Utah?
  • How much water are you drinking a day? Do you drink fruit juice, soda pop, caffeinated teas, coffee, diet energy or those power drinks (not very healthy)?
  • Are you exercising? What do you do for exercise? Are you doing the right exercise for your body? As a holistic chiropractor Dr. Bob Seiler of  Salt Lake City, Utah can help you determine what exercises are good for you and which exercises may be hurting your body without even knowing it!  Lifting weights, doing stationary bike, cardiovascular, elliptical, tread-mill, running, swimming, walking, yoga may not be the best form of exercise for your body-mind-spirit?
  • How is your spine, joints, body responding to the form of exercise that you are doing – chemically & emotionally? Are you or your child perhaps increasing the scoliosi that is i your spine without even feeling it?
  • When was the last time your spine was examined by a holistic chiropractor, a true holistic chiropractor? Do you know if your shoulders, hips, legs are in alignment? If your shoulders, hips and legs are not in alignment then the exercise that you are doing can be worsening your condition! There are only 30% of pain cells in the body, which means that a problem has to reach about 70% before you can feel the pain. That means from the 70% to 100% level of pain you may not be able to walk, raise your arm or hold your head up!  So you really ought not wait until you feel pain in order to determine that you have a problem.
  • Have you ever seen what your spine looks like on x-rays?  Are the lordotic and kyphotic curves of your spine symmetrical, straight, degenerating, eroding, irregular, scoliotic?  Your exercise program may be making your spine worse? You may just not yet see or feel how gym work-outs may be hurting you!
  • Even though you may not see or feel any pain does that mean that your body is healthy?  A problem could already exist, but you don’t yet feel it,
  • What type of work do you do? How many years have you been doing your work? How much sitting, bending, twisting, lifting does your work involve? There are physical pressures to take into consideration like standing on tile or carpet which have cement underneath them. Are there emotional & physical stresses, chemically environmental health hazards to take into consideration in your workplace? Breathing in the chemicals at a beauty salon is one example, which oftentimes can lead to headaches.
  • Are you taking any medications? Which ones? For how long? Are they helping? Or are you adding more medications & more chemicals to your body?
  • When was the last time that you had any lab work done by a holistic chiropractor with a holistic natural perspective rather than from a medical doctor which wi;; more than likely lead to taking more medications. The typical person at 65 years old these days is taking about 15 medications! Have you considered changing your lifestyle, what you eat, how you go about your day?
  • How is your digestion and be honest?  Do you have any belching, burping, passing of gas? Which foods upset your stomach? Are you taking anti-acid medications or over-the-counter anti-acids? How long have you been doing that for? How often do you have bowel movements?  Daily, every two days, every three days? Increased stress usually leads to constipation? Constipation can be harmful and bleeding can result!
  • How is your quality of sleep? Do you toss & turn? Are you a restless sleeper? Do you experience Restless Leg Syndrome? Do you sleep with a person who snores? Is it difficult for you you to sleep? Does he or she have sleep apnea? Sleep apnea can lead to increased blood pressure? Do you wake up in the morning tired or energized?

Q:  Can a Chiropractic Wellness Lifestyle help woman’s health in regard to menstruation, infertility, pregnancy, peri-menopausal, menopausal and post-menopausal processes?

A:  Yes. As a Holistic Chiropractor, Dr. Bob Seiler of Salt Lake City, Utah, helps to educate children, teens, parents, adults, that the nervous system of the body “naturally” regulates every function in the body. It’s the nerve impulses from the brain that are relayed to the spinal cord that conveys neuronal messages to every function of the body, which in turn can optimize the menstrual, reproductive, menopausal and post-menopausal processes. If these nerve pathways are interfered with then those respective organs to which those nerves travel to can be compromised. It’s like a watering-hose in your backyard. If the water is flowing from the hose and you step on the hose the water won’t continue to flow. The same is true for the nerves in your body. Depending on where the nerves are pinched (compressed) that’s where the energy will not flow to and those specific nerve pathways can lead to decreased chemical, structural and emotional health. It could take 5-10-15-20 years before you feel any compromise. That’s where x-rays can help to see what’s going on in your body.

Q:  What can cause the nerves of the sacral plexus (located in your low back above your buttocks) in a female to be compromised which could interfere with menstrual, reproductive, peri-menopausal, menopausal, post-menopausal processes?

A: Here are possibilities:

  • While a child is in the womb the mother could have had an injury, an accident and could have fallen on her sacral plexus (on her low back), which in turn could put pressure on the nerves from the sacral plexus, which could affect the chemical or structural health leading to menstrual and menopausal imbalances,
  • The mother could have been in a car accident and could have compromised the nerves of her sacral plexus (in her low back),
  • The mother could have experienced physical abuse , which could compromise the health of the female menstrual, reproductive, menopausal cycles,
  • The child at early age could have fallen out of bed, down some steps at home, at school, fallen off her bicycle, fallen from swings, monkey-bars, see-saw at the school playground, repeated dismounts from gymnastics could compromise the nerves of the sacral plexus, therefore, affecting menstrual, reproductive health,
  • Oftentimes in the school playground kids are just playing, and even adults don’t understand the consequences of what may appear to be a small fall,
    * The child, teen, adolescent could be involved in the forceful contact of sports like basketball, soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, sliding into another girl playing softball, falling on the ice while figure-skating, skiing or snow-boarding, wiping-out into some trees or have a whiplash-like bicycle or car accident,
  • You or your daughter could have accidentally fallen on some black-iced driveways, in parking lots or on side-walks,
  • Maybe the child experienced physical abuse in the areas of her low back, shoulders or head,
  • The child’s body chemistry could be imbalanced from what he/she eats, from too much sugar, cookies, sweets, candy, chocolate, fruit juices and not enough of the right complex carbohydrates and protein,
  • Having experienced any of the above incidents once or over a repeated number of times throughout life could cause nerve dysfunction, chemical imbalances within a body and could affect menstrual, reproductive, menopausal health,
  • You or your daughter could be using prescribed medications. Medications have side effects and those medications, birth control pills, hormone replacement therapy may already be interfering with body’s natural reproductive chemistry,
  • Medications taken over a long period of time can lose their effectiveness and can be harmful,
  • Sacral plexus (in your low back) injuries, falls, whiplash, pinched nerves, from sitting at school or at your desk over time could affect the menstrual, reproductive, peri-menopausal, menopausal (hot flashes, irritability, moodiness), post-menopausal health

Q:  What can a parent do for a child or what can an adult do to check to see if there is any nerve compromising of the sacral plexus?

A: You can call Dr. Bob Seiler, a holistic chiropractor, located at 150 South 600 East, Suite 3B, Salt Lake City, Utah at (801) 230-0166 and schedule an initial chiropractic appointment. The initial paperwork, consultation, chiropractic exam and chiropractic treatment takes about an hour.

Q: What can cause the nerves of the male sacral plexus (located in your low back just above your buttocks) to be compromised, which could affect men’s sexual health / dysfunction?

A:  A compromised male sacral plexus could be a result from:

  • A birthing process which could have placed nerve pressure on your low back (a delivery by forceps),
  • The child could have fallen from a tree, from his bicycle onto a sidewalk, in the school playground onto his sacral plexus leading to nerve dysfunction,
  • The child could have received a forceful blow from playing football, soccer, basketball, hockey, from repeated dismounts from gymnastics of being on the cheering team, landing on hardwood floors underneath which is usually cement, which could lead to sacroiliac injury (SI joint dysfunction/instability)
  • There could have been a whiplash, accident or injury from a car, motorcycle, moped, ATV,
  • The sacral plexus nerve dysfunction could be from winter sports, skiing, snow-boarding, figure-skating or from landings in extreme sports,
  • Being thrown from a horse, falling off a cliff onto your back, being catapulted from a motorcycle, falling from a ladder onto a driveway,
  • You may have been standing, bending, twisting, lifting, working on a cement floor for months or years (cement floors are the hardest of surfaces to stand on) can put large amounts of compression on nerves to cause sacral plexus nerve dysfunction, which can lead to numbness or tingling in your buttocks, legs or feet,
  • You could have been done masonry, brick laying, putting up dry wall, which could put nerve pressure on the sacral plexus
  • Sitting on a chair while in school or at the office for 5-10-30-50 years can pinch nerves in your low back (while also taking into consideration body weight) has a tendency to increase nerve pressure. The increased the body weight, the increased the nerve dysfunction can affect male health,
  • From a lack of exercise or doing the incorrect exercises,
  • From not eating well, too many carbohydrates, soda pop, sweets, candy, chocolate, french fries, chips, fast-foods could affect male libido,
  • Eating from vending machines at the office or at school (preservatives – not healthy),
  • Eating too many preservatives, products in bottles, jars, containers, boxes which are on shelves in grocery stores (the preservatives prolong the longevity of the shelved product, but the preservatives don’t support biological and chemical health),
  • Men driving large tractor trailers for thousands of miles, the compression of sitting long periods of time and from the vibrations of a truck could lead to sacral nerve dysfunction,
  • From the vibrations of jack-hammering cement; from lifting heavy cartons over years (in a warehouse or a loading dock),
  • Being emotionally or physically abused,
  • Medications to support male libido; ingesting what is unnatural,
  • Drinking energy drinks (which could be caffeinated),

A: Yes

* Aetna Insurance

* CCN & CNN Insurance
* Coventry Insurance
* First Health Insurance
* Mailhandlers Insurance

*UnitedHealthCare

* Align Networks, Cypress Care, GE Wellness Plan, Golden Rule, Great-West Healthcare, Health Allies, Medical Resource LLC,  Premera Blue Cross, Principal Life Insurance Co, Reserve National, UnitedHealthCare (UHC), Universal SmartComp.

If your insurance isn’t listed here please call your Personnel Department (PD) or your Human Resource Department (HRD) and ask them if you and your family have chiropractic healthcare benefits. If your plan does not offer chiropractic healthcare benefits, ask your PD or HRD if you and your family have out-of-network chiropractic healthcare benefits and ask them to explain those benefits to you. Then you may call our office for an initial chiropractic appointment at (801) 230-0166.

Q: If you or a member of your family are involved in an auto accident how would you go about using your auto insurance chiropractic coverage?

A: You would need to call your auto insurance agent. Their phone number is on your auto insurance card. Report your accident. Your agent will ask you how the accident took place. Ask for a claim number, then you can call our office (810) 230-0166 to schedule your initial chiropractic appointment.

Q: How much Personal Injury Protection (PIP) do you have? How much do you need?

A: Most people only purchase $3,000 worth of  PIP, which is the least expensive, BUT this amount is not enough – doctor and hospital bills these days are very expensive; thousands or hundred of thousands of dollars. Some families go into bankruptcy, because they cannot afford medical bills after an unexpected catastrophic accident.

Q: What is Dr. Bob’s office hours for emergency chiropractic care?

A: * For emergency chiropractic care please feel free to call Dr. Bob at (801) 230-0166 from 8am to 8pm seven days a week!

Q: Are there different amounts of Personal Injury Protection (PIP) that you can purchase for you and your family?

A: Yes. Just call your auto insurance agent and ask them how much it would cost you to have $5,000, $10,000, $25,000, $50,000, $100,000 worth of Personal Injury Protection. Six months of a $100,000 PIP may just cost $10 to $15 more a month. You’ll be glad that you did it!

Q: How much PIP do you need to purchase?

Answer 1. A patient that Dr. Bob had was involved in an auto accident. The patient was ambulanced to the local community hospital – cost $1300; two hours of emergency care, x-rays and CT Scans $3900 – total $5200. The initial $5,000 was exhausted in two hours.

Answer 2. Dr. Bob, holistic chiropractor in Salt Lake City, Utah, about three years ago was involved in a motorcycle accident in Big Cottonwood Canyon, Salt Lake City, Utah. He was ambulanced to the local University Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah – cost $850; if he had to be air-flighted it would have cost about $1500 / mile. Then you have the costs for emergency care, for any pain injections or pain medications, for a team of trauma doctors, for x-rays, CT Scans or MRI’s. These costs could amount to over $7500. Then depending on the nature of your accident you may need rehabilitation and physical therapy proceeded by out-patient medical care and chiropractic care. You could easily be over $50,000. Your initial $3,000 of PIP doesn’t go too far!

Q: How much would it cost you for a $100,000 worth of Personal Injury Protection?

A: There are different factors involved, but it could only cost $10 to $15 more per month. Best to contact your auto insurance agent.

Q: Myth or Truth? Will your insurance premiums increase if you or a member of your family use your Personal Injury Protection?

A: These days with our current economy medical costs will keep on increasing, but if you receive the proper treatment for your auto accident immediately following your injury in the long term you or your family member will pay less in medical or chiropractic care, have an increased quality of life rather then not receive the medical or chiropractic care that you ought to have immediately following your injury. Immediately after a whiplash a child, teen, adolescent, adult ought to be examined by a chiropractor doctor.

Q: What are the disadvantages of not being treated immediately after a car accident?

A: Most people don’t feel pain after a car accident because they are in such trauma. Trauma may not subside until after 1-2-3-4 weeks! So it’s best to see your chiropractor right after the car accident to get checked. Whether a kid, teen, adolescent or adult is involved in a small or more serious auto accident, if the injury is not treated immediately afterwards there will be increased residual damage and degeneration to the joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons involved. The sooner that your child, teen, adolescent receives the proper healthcare the more healthy their future will be.

For any further questions please call Dr. Bob Seiler, holistic chiropractor, in Salt Lake City, Utah, at (801) 230-0166.

With so many variables being involved in your search for improved health, the chemicals, neurotransmitters & hormones in your body play a vital role in determining your health, well-being and state-of-mind. These chemicals of your nervous system not only affect your body’s structures (bones-ligaments-tendons-muscles), but they also affect the functioning of all your organs (brain, heart, liver, lungs, digestive, endocrine, excretory, respiratory, reproductive systems to name a few); your emotions (energy levels-libido-moods-feelings). If you are not satisfied with your quality of life, you ought to consider having these non-invasive lab tests performed. Some insurance companies do reimburse for these lab tests, but even if your insurance doesn’t cover these services please consider doing them for yourself.  There’s a lot of illness, disease and dying in our world. If we take the right action we can prolong and optimize our lives!

If you are sincerely concerned about your health or a loved-one, Dr. Bob Seiler, a holistic chiropractor in Salt Lake City, Utah, would love to help you.

Q: Who can you contact to have your non-invasive lab work done?
A: Dr. Bob Seiler, a holistic chiropractor in Salt Lake City, Utah, at (801) 230-0166.

Q: Do you know that within your body chemicals, neurotransmitters & hormones can affect:

  • Your emotions, moods, focus/concentration
  • Metabolism (caloric digestion, energy-levels, body weight)
  • Chronic illness and pain
  • Addictions / Compulsions
  • Depression and fatigue
  • Difficulty in falling asleep and staying asleep
  • Anxiety and panic disorders
  • Pre-menstrual, menopausal, post-menopausal symptoms
  • Migraines
  • Low libido
  • Weight control
  • Movement and balance disorders
  • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
  • Attention Deficit Hypertension Disorder (ADHD)
  • Autism
  • And support children’s development (rather than take medications as such an early age)

Q: How often does Dr. Bob Seiler, a holistic chiropractor in Salt Lake City, Utah, recommend having non-invasive lab work performed?
A: With the increased physical, emotional, chemical life stresses that bombard us from world economies & events, possibly from your work or being out of work, from your relationship (with money, finances, family issues), from the air that you breathe, from the chemicals on the food that you eat, from the herbicides, pesticides in the soil, from what animals are fed which produces your food, non-invasive lab tests ought to be done no less then every 9-12 months.

Q: Why ought non-invasive lab work be done no less than once a year?
A: Your body’s chemicals, neurotransmitters & hormones are changing daily from what you eat, drink, breathe and are exposed to. Disease and illness can develop in your body without you knowing it. The longer you wait to find out what your chemical levels are the longer it will take to restore those chemicals to their balanced and optimal levels. If there are significant out of the normal ranges for the chemicals neurotransmitter and hormonal levels in your body, additional lab work can be ordered, and you can be referred out for further medical help.

Q: Do you know the role of your nervous system with your health and well-being?
A: The nervous system serves as the central control mechanism for nearly every bodily process. The brain, through its trillions of connections to itself and all other organs, utilizes neurotransmitters and hormones as chemical messengers to maintain proper communications and thus, homeostasis with the body. Despite the critical functions that it governs, the nervous system is not impervious to disruption. Stress, infections, poor diet, toxins and genetics have a direct impact on the nervous system function, negatively affecting proper neurotransmission. Disruption of communication within the nervous system, due to deficient or excessive levels of various hormones and neurotransmitters, may lead to the manifestation of clinical complaints.

Q*1: Which Urinary Neurotransmitters can be used as Clinical Biomarkers that scientific literature suggests play a role in psychological and (somatic) body disorders?
Epinephrine is an excitatory neurotransmitter important for motivation, energy, metabolism, mental focus, and responses to stress. Studies have shown that epinephrine is associated with fatigue, hyperactivity, insomnia, weight management and attention issues (1,2,3).
Norepinephrine is an excitatory neurotransmitter important in mental focus, mood regulation, and the stress response. Studies suggest catecholamine levels are correlated with behavioral differences in ADD, the severity of PTSD symptoms, anxiety, fatigue, motivation and obesity (2,3).
Dopamine is an excitatory neurotransmitter. The literature shows that dopamine is involved in the pleasure/reward pathway, motor control, memory and mood. It may also be linked to hyperactivity, anxiety, addictions, cravings, and obsessive disorders (4,5).
DOPAC is a metabolite of dopamine. The combination of DOPAC and dopamine measurements can assist in the accessment of the activity of dopaminergic neurons. Studies have associated DOPAC imbalances with anorexia, untreated Parkinson’s disease, polycystic ovaries, and compulsive and addictive behaviors (6,7,8).
Serotonin is an inhibitory neurotransmitter important for the regulation of mood, sleep, body temperature, and appetite. Literature has linked imbalances in serotonin with depression, migraines, hot flashes, anxiety, anger and insomnia (3,5).
5-HIAA is a metabolite of serotonin. The activity of serotonergic neurons in the brain can be examined through the assessment of serotonin and 5-HIAA levels. Imbalances in 5-HIAA have been associated with low mood, headaches, and intestinal issues. Imbalances may also be associated with sleep difficulties, cravings and urges (9,10,11).
Glycine is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the spinal cord. Like GABA, glycine has a calming effect. Imbalances in glycine are typically present in high stress situations and have been associated with anxiety and depression (12).
Taurine is both an inhibitory neurotransmitter and a neuromodulator. As a neuromodulator, taurine promotes the effects of GABA. Taurine has been shown to be neuroprotective and beneficial for heart function and imbalances have been associated with insomnia, anxiety and hyperactivity (13,14).
GAGA is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain and is important for regulating the activity of excitatory neurotransmission. Research has shown that GABA is a modulator of the stress response and is therefore, associated with complaints such as insomnia, anxiety and hyperactivity (15).
Glutamate is the primary excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain and is important in learning, memory, cognition, mood and wakefulness. As such, it may be linked with focus and concentration and insomnia. Studies of pharmacological approaches targeting glutamate have concluded that glutamate is involved in many recurrent mood disorders (16).
PEA is an excitatory neurotransmitter important for attention, focus and mood. Imbalances in PEA may be associated with anxiety, insomnia and mood. Studies have found that PEA plays a role in hyperactivity and focus/concentration disorders (17).
Histamine is an excitatory neurotransmitter involved in the sleep/wake cycle and immune processes. A review of literature shows that histamine is involved in the presentation of insomnia, allergies and active infections and may be involved in cognitive functions and neuropsychiatric disorders (18).

Q: Why is the quality of sleep so important?
A: Because the quality of your sleep will affect the quality of your waking day.

Q’s:

  • Are you energized when you awake in the morning, or are you sluggish or tired?
  • Are you getting eight hours of uninterrupted sleep?
  • Do you children get more than eight hours of uninterrupted sleep?
  • Are you waking up in the mid-morning hours to urinate?
  • Do you snore (sleep apnea) which interrupts restful sleep?
  • Do you experience Restless Leg Syndrome while sleeping which interrupts your sleep?
  • People who experience interrupted sleep tend to have increased blood pressure, which will make you’re kidneys, lungs, heart work harder, and will therefore lessen your body’s resistance to disease, illness, injury, pain.

Chiropractor High School Sports

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Q: Can my child who plays sports in high school benefit from the holistic chiropractic care offered by Dr. Bob Seiler, Chiropractor in Salt Lake City, Utah?

Answer 1: Yes. Teens’ bodies are very vulnerable to the rigorous practices and physical contact from sports such as football, lacrosse, weight-lifting, track & field, running, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, hockey, swimming, gymnastics, fencing, baseball, softball, tennis, golf.  Spinal misalignments can occur after the repetitive impacts and motions of these sports.

Answer 2: All high school sports involve to varying degrees physical forces of compression & torque that affect joints, cartilage, muscles, tendons, ligaments of the body. The increased the physical forces of the sport the increased the likelihood of injury eventually leading to physical problems & surgeries. After a surgery that body part is never quite the same because it’s been cut.

Answer 3: Children’s bodies grow most rapidly during their elementary and high school years. With increased physical forces of gravity, compression & torque, forces of weight with shearing lead to increased back, neck and body injuries,. Most adults will experience low back pain, but the problems actually begin in those elementary & high school years. The pain is only felt later in life, because there is only 30% of pain cells in the body, which means that a problem has to develop more in order to be felt. As a result kids, teens, adults don’t get the problem treated soon enough, therefore, it takes longer to reduce the pain and longer to heal, Scoliosis (an irregular curvature of the spine) begins at early ages. A child in elementary school or high school can be sitting and leaning over their desks for months and years! Scoliosis is usually not felt, but can be seen on x-rays. X-rays can give you a picture of your child’s spine. If detected early enough scoliosis won’t have to be a major problem. And if x-rays are taken please have the x-rays taken from a chiropractor who is the only healthcare professional specifically trained for 3-4 years to interpret your child’s x-rays. Medical doctors or physical therapists are not trained to interpret x-rays as chiropractors are.

Q: Why do so many kids, teens, adolescents take over-the –counter (OTC) pills & pain relievers such as Advil, aspirin, ibuprofen, Tylenol or other toxic medications to lessen pain or injury in high school? Can a chiropractor provide more effective relief?

A: Dr. Seiler having attended various high school sports in Salt Lake City, Utah, sees coaches more interested in developing the skills of athletes in their sport. Most high schools don’t have coaches on the field or teachers in the classroom talking about spinal education, spinal health, natural healthcare or even mention chiropractic. More often the athlete is receiving a pain injection, a shot of cortisone, a pain medication, which can lead to drug dependencies and doesn’t help the cause of the problem; it just attempts to relieve the pain. See drbobseiler.com – Free Health & Wellness Talks at your school.

Q: If coaches and teachers aren’t mentioning chiropractic to their students and players, then where and how do kids learn to care for their bodies naturally?

A: From television. . drug and pharmaceutical companies have lots of money to spend on advertising and if kids are watching lots of television that’s what they think is best for them, but it’s not. Take a look at all the television commercials that there are for pain relievers; all the drugs / pills that are advertised for any health problem today. Many people seek remedies from pills and quick-fixes. But it’s through chiropractors that talk about natural healthcare, spinal adjustments, flexibility in our bodies & a healthy lifestyle and the value of a healthy nervous system, which gives life to our years and years to our lives. The chiropractic process is a natural process, and, therefore, requires some time to heal.

Chiropractors intensely study the nervous system and the body for four years in a chiropractic college. Chiropractic colleges teach that the nervous system is the most important system of the body, because it affects every function of the body. If the nervous system is functioning optimally so is the quality of life for that kid, teen, adult. That kid, teen, adult will experience less injury, less illness and less disease.

Q: As a holistic chiropractor in Salt Lake City what is unique about Dr. Bob’s chiropractic philosophy?

A: Dr. Bob Seiler, a chiropractor in Salt Lake City, Utah:

  • won’t have every patient receive three adjustments per week for years to come, which is common for many chiropractors,
  • won’t sell you or your family excessive amounts of nutritional supplements or herbs,
  • will offer you different holistic options for your chiropractic healthcare depending on the extent, longevity, severity of your health concern(s)
  • will take into consideration what kind of medical treatments or physical therapy that may not have previously worked for you or your family
  • provides the highest of personable and quality chiropractic services in Salt Lake City,
  • will offer you and your family three types of chiropractic care: Type 1) to lessen your pain or problem. Type 2) to lessen your pain and correct the problem that caused the health concerns. Type 3) to maintain your wellness so that the health concern that was relieved will continue to be corrected and managed over time. All of the different types of chiropractic care are all options for you, and the final decision is yours!
  • does not have every patient x-rayed
  • sees patients on weekday evenings and weekends; there is no waiting with multiple patients in the reception area. For an appointment you can call our office at (801-230-0166).
  • loves helping children, teens, adults in body-mind & spirit to help them empower themselves and to recommend natural ways to  improve their quality of living.
  • will listen to what you have to say

Q: What is the benefit of pediatric chiropractic care to adult chiropractic care?

A: Accidents and injuries are more easily correctable with children, teens, adolescents, because life patterns are less established. Adult patterns for better or for worse are more ingrained, and, therefore, it takes longer to make the needed changes and improvements. That’s how nature is.

Q: How would you know when it is a good time to schedule a chiropractic exam for your child, teen, adolescent?

A: If you’re not sure please call our office and tell us about your child’s condition. Dr. Bob can let you know over the phone if you ought to schedule an appointment for your child.  You don’t need to rely upon someone else’s suggestions or opinion, because they may not have had a good first chiropractic experience, they may not believe in chiropractic and they may not have seen the right chiropractor. Every chiropractor works differently. Other people may believe that pills are the answer to health problems.

Please feel free to call Dr. Bob Seiler, a holistic chiropractor in Salt Lake City, for your or your child’s first chiropractic exam. Come in and see what it’s like for yourself. Dr. Bob  guarantees that you’ll have a wonderful experience and be helped!

Whiplash: Holistic Chiropractor for Kids & Adults

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Salt Lake City Holistic Chiropractor for Kids & Adults Involving Whiplash Accidents

Q:  What are some of the benefits of chiropractic care immediately following a whiplash or personal injury?

A: The sustained injury heals sooner if you see a chiropractor immediately after an injury. The integrity of the joint heals more close to its pre-injured position, therefore, kids, teens, adolescents, adults with whiplash or personal injuries have less long term joint damage and degeneration and your child will be able to participate sooner and more competitively in their sport while reducing the likelihood of future surgery. Scheduling an appointment with Dr. Bob Seiler, in Salt Lake City,  immediately after a whiplash will help reduce the long term negative effects of injury. Going to an emergency room, having x-rays, CT scans, receiving some pain medications and being sent home after your told that there’s nothing wrong doesn’t heal your body!

Q:  What are some of the more common personal injuries that are reasons to schedule an appointment with Dr. Bob,  a holistic chiropractor in Salt Lake City, immediately  following  whiplash?

Answer 1:  Being a driver or passenger in a car and getting struck from the rear, side or front, or by you striking another vehicle or object (such as a guard rail, highway barrier, tree, deer, horse). These are the more common types of whiplash and they ought to be immediately checked by a chiropractor doctor even if the child or adult feels no pain.

Answer 2:  A kid, teen, adolescent, adult doesn’t have to have impact or be stricken to have a whiplash.  The child, teen, adult can experience a whip-like motion, or  sudden or twisting  movements  of the spine, body, neck; for example, slipping on black ice, grabbing or holding onto something to prevent yourself from falling on black ice; holding onto a car door or railing as you are falling; the whiplash-like movement of amusement rides.

Answer 3:  Suddenly  falling, crashing, whiplash-like motion from a bicycle, mountain-bike, scooter, moped, motorcycle, ATV;  a child falling out of a bed, down some steps, from the monkey-bars,  swings at the school playground,  from a trampoline in the backyard.

Answer 4:  Having a sport accident, falling, crashing, wiping-out  from skiing.snowboarding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, sleigh-riding, tobogganing, ice-skating, rollerblading, skate-boarding, Answer 5:  Falling while horse-riding, mountain-climbing,

Q:  Why is it so important to receive a chiropractic examination immediately following a whiplash even if the child, teen, adolescent, adult  feels  no pain?

A:  Because the body only has 30% of pain cells, which means that an accident, injury, whiplash has to be of a higher magnitude in order for the child, teen, adolescent, adult to feel pain. Oftentimes, a child, teen or adult won’t feel pain, but that doesn’t mean that there is no compromise to the person’s body or mind. There is compromise, but it just isn’t felt. This is where the chiropractor is extensively trained for four years to examine and evaluate the body for whiplash and recommend natural health options without using pain drugs.

Q:  Does a child, teen, adolescent, adult  feel pain, headaches, back, neck, shoulder, arm, leg pain immediately following a whiplash or personal injury?

A: No.  It could be days or even weeks before a child, teen, adolescent, adult feels any symptoms after whiplash, because the body is still in a traumatized state!  Only after the trauma subsides can a child, teen, adolescent, adult actually feel pain or symptoms. That’s why it’s necessary not to evaluate one’s health or extent of injury on pain alone. It’s the importance of receiving a chiropractic exam from Dr. Bob, Salt Lake City, Utah, immediately after the slightest of whiplash or personal injuries.  Its’ also critical for parents not to base their child’s extent of whiplash or injury on their level of pain. Kids can have a high tolerance for physical contact, but each contact, impact, fall, accumulatively compromises the body.

Q:  Following a whiplash how would you decide whether to use the services of a hospital, medical doctor or Dr. Bob Seiler, a holistic chiropractor, in Salt Lake City?

A:  Depending on the magnitude of the whiplash or personal injury. Although it may be difficult to decide in a crisis situation is your insurance accepted at that particular hospital, medical doctor or chiropractor’s clinic? Or do you prefer to go to a hospital, medical doctor or chiropractic clinic whether your insurance is accepted there or not, which could provide increased consolation and security.

Q:  What kind of urgent or emergency care can you expect to receive from a hospital, medical doctor or chiropractor?

Answer 1:   About three years ago Dr. Seiler, a Chiropractor in Salt Lake City, Utah, was involved in a motorcycle accident with a car traveling at 35 mph. After colliding with the car Dr. Bob bounced on a canyon road for some 200’. Within 20 minutes he was ambulanced to the local Salt Lake City hospital where he received CT scans of his head and x-rays of any possibly fractured body part. In this case the hospital was the best place to be.nswer 2:  About six months ago Dr. Bob on his Ducati motorcycle slid-out from under some loose gravel. Fortunately, he only fractured his right clavicle (but was that painful)!. From his previous motorcycle accident in Answer 1 (above) he was able to ask himself  if it’s best to go the ER at the local Salt Lake City hospital, go to a Salt Lake City urgent care clinic or go home?  He considered the medical insurance that he had and wondered what would an ER in the hospital or an urgent care clinic do to help him and at what cost?  Hospitals are quite expensive and usually have long waiting times. What would a hospital do for possible fractured clavicle?  Take some x-rays,  give a pain injection and some pain medications for about $1500. He decided to go to the Salt Lake City urgent care clinic where he received x-rays, a pain injection and pain medications for $350. After a few days when the swelling decreased Dr. Seiler did physical therapy followed with chiropractic care. He took some pain meds as needed because the pain was excruciating, but immediately afterwards took nutritional supplementation to enhance maximum recovery.

Q:  What chiropractic techniques  does  Dr. Seiler, Chiropractor in Salt Lake City, Utah,  typically use to treat whiplash or personal  injuries?

A:  Dr. Bob uses  state-of-the-art chiropractic instrumentation,  gentleness of hands with chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy,  electrical muscle stimulation, laser and trigger point therapies, breath-work, nutritional supplementation and his patient experience for over 23 years,

Q:  Are there lots of kids, teens, adolescents, adults who don’t immediately receive the care that they need after whiplash or personal injuries?

A: Yes.  Even these days a lot of people don’t understand what  chiropractors do.  Many people think that chiropractors just treat low back pain, which is untrue. Chiropractors naturally treat the whole body, because chiropractors intensely study the nervous system of the body for four years and the nervous system is related to every function in the body! There are some parents who feel that kids are too young to hurt, to feel pain and go untreated after their whiplash. Not all chiropractors practice the same way. Dr. Bob offers a gentle approach to healing and helps parents understand the nature of their child’s  whiplash or injury, what chiropractic care can do to help and what consequences there can be without chiropractic care. Dr. Bob will help you, your child or teen have the best chiropractic experience that you’ve ever had.

Q: What are some of the consequences of delayed chiropractic treatments or untreated whiplash or personal injuries?

A: The child, teen, adolescent, adult will have increased physical limitations of that injured body area and that body area will be more prone to future injuries and potential surgeries. That untreated area won’t ever be quite the same. There will be increased degeneration of joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments.
